Sound of the Week

At Flying Start we introduce a new letter sound to the children every week using Read, Write, Inc. rhymes and characters. We get the children to listen and say the letter sound, and listen to words  and look at objects  that start with that  sound. For older children and children that are ready, we will be encourage them to recognise the letter shape and have a go at making the letter shape in all different multi sensory ways.

Here is a some video clips of how to say the letter sounds:

General Advice and Concerns about a Child's Development

Explanation

The NHS has designed an Early Years Toolkit to support families, carers and professionals who are concerned about a child’s development, providing them with a greater understanding of children’s development and suggestions on how this can be promoted. There is some great general advice about your children's development on the website too such as; helping fussy eaters, what to do if your child is stammering, advice on pre-writing activites to do at home, helping your child develop balance and co-ordination and much more.
